This July, memebers from Asworth Road Baptist Church will be taking a missions trip to Zacatecas, Mexico. We will travel to a small rural county called Ojo Caliente and be there July 5 – 15th.
Ojo Caliente is a poor county in Mexico. The county is made up mostly of women and children, since the men have traveled to the U.S. to find work. Unfortunately for most of the families, the men who travel to the U.S. end up forgetting about their families in Mexico and acquire a new family within the U.S., therefore, the county of Ojo Caliente does not have a strong economic structure, leaving most families with only $1 to live on each day.
Our group will be traveling to Ojo Caliente to help the families in need. Since most of our group cannot directly communicate with the families that we will be helping, we will be spreading God’s word through actions and examples rather than words.
Within the county of Ojo Caliente families do not have bathrooms within their houses, a community bathroom is supplied for towns, but the community bathroom is usually nothing more than a designated area of cacti and bushes. One of our missions will be to construct latrines for 20 families.
Our group will also touch the lives of the children in the community by bringing a message of hope with a backyard vacation bible school. We have children and youth attending the mission trip that will help with the VBS.
This is a really exciting opportunity to show people Christ’s love! Ananias Cruz Suarez, a Christian Pastor and our coordinator in Mexico, has coordinated several latrine mission trips before, and he has informed us that the people in Zacatecas are ready for the Good News. County presidents in Zacatecas specifically ask Ananias to bring in missionaries to help put latrines in their counties. Anaias has also been able to start over 60 new Christian churches in the state of Zacatecas. He alone has done so much in the name of Christ and we are excited to help him continue to spread the word. This is a blessed time to go to Zacatecas and this is why we are so excited to be called in do to God’s work!
